Karen is a St. Louis native who started skating in group lessons, which quickly progressed into private lessons. Later she competed locally as well as across the US.

At the age of 15 she moved to a training center in Detroit, Michigan. After a season there, an opportunity to train at the Broadmoor World Arena in Colorado Springs with coach and Olympian Barbara Roles-Williams arose. Fun fact: Karen lived at Beatty Hall dormitory on the Broadmoor property, which was in the 1978 movie Ice Castles!

In 1985, Karen returned to St. Louis and started teaching at the local rinks. She coached numerous skaters to achieve their Gold level in testing, coached competitors in Qualified competitions through Senior levels and Adult National competitors. From 2002 through 2005 she accompanied her Adult skaters as a skater herself, medaling every year!

In 2009 Karen moved to Ashburn, Virginia teaching for 8 years with the Washington FSC. At the prompting of a friend and coaching colleague, she joined the DC Edge Masters Synchro Team which went on to win Gold at the Eastern Sectional Championships and the Bronze medal at the 2014 US Synchronized Nationals.

In 2022 Karen returned to teaching in the St. Louis Metro area.
